A Novel Idea: June 3 - June 28
Classes meet Monday - Friday
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
When you sign up for A Novel Idea this summer, you will write your very own novel in 30 days of literary abandon!
During a series of creative explosions, you will write 30,000 to 40,000 words, throwing caution to the wind to learn the beautiful and sometimes messy art of novel-writing with novelist, college writing instructor, and former teenager, Kristen House.
Over the course of 4 weeks, you'’ll achieve something every literate adult aspires to do (even your mom, probably) but very few ever accomplish.
You’'ll imagine. You’'ll create. You'’ll write.
And then you'’ll brag about it.
You’'ll have a paperback perfect-bound copy of your book –to carry around in your backpack, like a magical self-esteem sword, ready to vanquish fears of writing research papers. Let's slay the inner editor who thinks your writing is rubbish, and eliminate the threat of your becoming another literate adult with an unrealized dream of being a novelist.
You'll already be one.
Want to polish and improve your writing? Sign up for our one-week writing workshops! We have special focussed sessions in both fiction and poetry, and each session offers different perspectives on writing.
$150 per class for Cheekwood members, $200 for non-members.
Session 1: June 3 - June 28
Classes meet Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
We are so excited that our signature class - A Novel Idea - will be hosted at Cheekwood during the summer of 2013.
Young writers will dream, create, and collaborate in this picturesque setting, and have the opportunity to write the stories of their lives on the grounds of the 1933 Mansion and the 50-acres of gardens that surround it. We even have the use of Cheekwood's brand-new literary garden!
So if you're planning on writing a novel with Kristen this summer, you should sign up. Right now.
Session 2: July 8 - August 2
Classes meet Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 11:30am
Developed for writers who want to improve their writing, explore a different genre of writing, and meet other writers, the Workshop sessions are one-week half-day workshops that combine instruction and writing time to maximize your creativity and inspiration. It's pure indulgence for wordy kids! Choose a genre and get that pencil moving!
